2006 Range Rover suspension fault

On a 2006 Range Rover while driving down the road it displays a message that says "system fault" however it doesn't limit the vehicle at all. When left parked the rear of the vehicle will squat and when I started the vehicle it displayed something such as "make sure obstacle is clear and reset suspension height." If there was a leak in the shock would it affect to whole backend of the vehicle? Also it has rear entertainment and the headphones are missing. Any idea of what replacement cost on those would be? If you take the cover off revealing the DVD changer and navigation DVD reader to the right is a black box that looks to be resealed with duct tape..subwoofer maybe?? The cd changer magazine is missing in the vehicle as well so I need to find one of those apparently. It looks as if a large person has sat in the drivers seat for the seat trim above the drivers seat controls is busted and the armrest on the door has squished down or softened where the person rested their arm. Does that rest on the door usually get soft? Of course the silver trim pieces have rubbed and on the rear of the console near the rear heated seat switches is completely black however that you can spray a new covering on possibly?? The vehicle has 80k miles on it. My main worry is what the suspension is doing!

The Suspension issue could be caused by a sticking valve in the valve block or a duff height sensor or a leaky suspension air bag...., as the ECU is commanding the vehicle to change height, but it is not getting a height change signal from the height sensor, the ECU thinks the vehicle is grounded on something and that it should be removed to allow the vehicle height change to take effect....

As for the headphones...no idea, LR dealer or Ebizzle maybe....

Yes the arm rests have been known to crumple....fix is a new door card!

Black Box...if it is large that is the Sub....a photo would help with identification....

This is a vehicle I am looking at buying. Our nearest dealer is an hour away and the next is 3 hours! I didn't know if this sounded like a sensor/valve issue or if it might have a leak. If there was a leaks in one of the rear shocks would both sides of backend lower? I live in a Arkansas town with 22,000 people in it. I doubt they have tools for a Range Rover! Can you see the lines/airbags when laying underneath the vehicle? When it squatted in the rear the vehicle was not running of course so the computer wouldn't be monitoring anything would it? Where can you get a new door card? Any idea of how expensive they are?

If one side goes down, so will the other. Never buy a Range Rover with faults unless you are knowledgeable about the problems and can DIY or it will empty your wallet faster than a wife

Engine needs to be running to allow the system to raise the vehicle....with the ignition in the position 2, all (well no doubt all if not most) of the ECU's are powered on and will be cheking things...

The L322 EAS system does self level with the ignition in position 2, if it can't do this due to a fault it will post a message and log a fault.

Run the engine with a door or tail gate open for ten minutesm, then close them all and see if she'll spring up to height (this ten minutes will ensure the air tank has enough air in it to effect a height change.

Never buy a Range Rover with faults unless you are aware of how much they cost to fix!

Also when listening to the radio there seems to be a rattle in the base at low volumes even. Not a blown speaker rattle but almost as if its on a bad station. This is why I think the duct tape is over the subwoofer box..

I can DIY for sure or we have a local mechanic that took care of stuff on my Audi for me so I am hoping he can do the same with the Range Rover! Is the suspension on these fixable by someone who doesn't work for Land Rover? Generally how much would it take to replace a shock or a pump? If there is a leak will the soap water method work to find it or are the hoses hidden?

As I have heard Range Rovers can be fun to fix however we have ran BMW's, Audi's, and an Escalade so I'm somewhat use to the repair costs...or so I hope..

Soapy water works if the leaks are external, look at the thread by RS 2000 Custom about cross valves leaking.
