Thanks

K motors leyland or Land Ranger Atherton. I've had work done at both and had no issues, Land Ranger are a bit cheaper/K motors are a slick outfit near the main Leyland DAF business park

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I hope you find it relevant.

I currently have a 2006 vogue and I had the same problem.

This cure only applies to vin numbers 6A198057 Onwards (around the 2006 facelift time)

Range rover have recognised a problem with "suspension fault" coming up on the dash.

My problem was with the small metal muffler on the compressor getting blocked and not letting the air in or out quick enough. If the system does not detect sufficient movement within the correct time it displays "suspension fault" and switches off the ride height adjustment.

I am no mechanic but changed this in 10 minutes with an 8mm and a 13mm socket or spanner. It is clean and easy to do.
The Uk Part number is RQV500040 and cost me £18 from the main dealer.

This is how I did it:

Take out Spare wheel under boot floor,
You will see a large black container with pipes going into the front of it and wires at the back. This is just a protective cover so remove it by undoing the 4 x 8mm bolts (one in each corner). Give the cover a gentle sideways tap just to unseat it.

Under the cover you will see the compressor, at the LH front of the compressor you will see the muffler (looks like a gold cone shaped filter), undo this using a 13mm long socket or a spanner.

With the muffler removed, start the vehicle (you can leave the tailgate open, but shut all other doors) and try the ride height adjustment. If you have no faults showing then you should be on the right track.

The new mufflers have a 3mm hole drilled sideways through them to allow more air flow.

Replace new muffler in compressor, do not over tighten.

Range Rover also replace the compressor dryer when doing this under warranty, but I have been told it is not always necessary. Mine did not need it.

Then put the cover back on making sure you do not trap any wires or pipes.

I hope this was helpful and sorry for the long post.

I too can report that I am having the same message appearing on the dashboard. I took the car to one of those garages with the diagnostic computers. He cleared down all the faults, telling me that the fault had triggered 15 sensors. He advised me to continue driving the car until such time the message appeared permanently on the dash. However, the message is regular but has not in 8 weeks become permanent. Mechanic made the suggestion that it would likely need to replace the compressor and valve at around £750.00. He said the same it is the suspension not achieving the right height within the allowed time that triggers the error messages. I visited Lookers Colchester and got me one of those new mufflers, £19.40 got to be worth a go. I showed the parts manager this thread, he said this was common to the extent that they keep a stock of the mufflers. Intend to install this weekend and will update post with findings soon. Fingers crossed this solves the annoying random Suspension Fault Message.

Update: Suspension Fault - Let me start by saying you reading the words of a very delighted forum user. This job was a breeze. I am not mechanically minded and although the job took me a little longer than 10 minutes as suggested, it was simple with the previous instruction provided. This thread has saved me a small fortune, some stress and needless time wasting at the local garage. Its been a week since fitting the muffler and the error message has not reappeared once.

I'm glad I read this post,:) as I just bought a 2006 Range Rover HSE that is having this Suspension fault. My repair shop stated that I need to replace the compressor b/c it is not filling up the tank fast enough, roughly $750. I will run this option past him and try it as it sounds like it will fix my issue!

I am having a similar problem, and wanted to check if anyone else has experienced it / solved it. It sounds like the compressor muffler may be the cause of my problem - but my issue is different and any alternate advice would be welcome:

My 2005 L322 RR Vogue has an intermittent suspension problem:

Dashboard message: Suspension Fault. 30 mph max.
The light on the suspension adjustment switch will have gone from an orange glow to being unlit.

This will often reset itself within a minute or so, and the suspension will rise once again to normal height, and the light on the switch being lit again.

If it does not re-set on its own then: The suspension will release all the air and go down to the stops.

To avoid this, you can (very very) quickly turn the ignition off and on (whilst still driving at high speed). This instantly cures the problem, but it can re-occur again.

This has been happening for a while now. Sometimes it happens very rarely, sometimes more often.

A new development has been that the rear suspension will sink to the stops when the car is parked for a while. It sometimes struggles to rise up, but will do so if you keep trying (by switching the ignition off and re-starting the car).

So far I am thinking I might need to change the muffler (see earlier post in this thread) if it exists on the 2005 model, and maybe the piston ring (www.bagpipingandy.com).

(FYI - I replaced both front air bags last year. The rear bags are originals, and as far as I can tell are not leaking (no hissing heard)).

Anyone got any ideas before I roll my sleeves up and start to make things worse?

Any advice very welcome!!

Hi

My Range Rover 2006 had an intermittent Suspension Fault message however the passenger side has now started to drop and the lights on dial on the panel go out after about 4 minutes, i di get a chance to raise it again before it does that but it drops again when i am driving, not all the time but sometimes.

I have just spent 2400 getting the Gear Box reconditioned so was hoping your advice in this post would be an option other than me spending more money

I was told when i bought the car there was a brand new pump put in the car but starting to think the guy saw us coming :-(

Sounds like you may have a leaking airspring.

First rule of L322 : Get diagnostics on it when looking for faults.
Second rule of L322: Get used to spending money on it.

You can chase faults all round the place but without diagnostics, you'll be on a hiding to nothing. At a guess I'd say ride height sensor , or air bag leak, but I'm just a keen amateur, I know nothing. Apart from saying.............yep you guessed it , get diagnostics on it.

Please ignore all of the above. I thought you were talking about a Range Rover. Turns out it's an ejoke, so all bets are off. On which note you must've got the year wrong both here and on your profile

Addit: Just realised you might mean Vogue? Which would explain 2006

Holy thread resurrection lol
I find necroposting beats the hell out of what someone did the other day, 3 new threads all on the same issue.
