Morning all, first thread so go easy.

Like so many people, I've always wanted to go through the pain of Land Rover ownership, and have stumbled upon a '06 Range Rover (Vogue I believe). Timing is right for a punt and scratch the itch and I'm tempted. The vehicle is a few hours away so if I proceed I need to get as much info and what not in advance.

Now I appreciate the 'watch list' on any LR is somewhat lengthy, but any advice on what I need to be looking / asking for? I've only ever bought from a main dealer at distance before so any pointers on the transaction would be appreciate too. MOT history is remarkably clean (too good?) and was on 70k miles in January. Three previous owners.

Finally does anyone have any experience of living with them day to day? I don't do mega miles, probably 6-7k a year, so MPG isn't as much as an issue it might be, but it is a big and heavy old bus. I've actually been after a Disco or possibly Freelander 2 so really don't have much of a clue of RRs.

Thanks in advance.

The golden rule is check that everything works including all the toys, if anything doesn't work walk away.
The gearboxes have a life expectancy of about 80K miles.

Cheers Datatek, much appreciated. :)

I was going to ask about what didn't work (I appreciate and expect a lengthy list!) but did not know that about the gearbox. Seeing as the mileage is on the verge, is it reasonable to assume a bill is looming then? I understand this is pure speculation of course.

Initially I thought it was reasonable priced too, but looking around it may not be the case although I suppose it is low mileage.

GEARBOX IS ****.

Engine is a tad wheezy for the size of the thing..

If MPG is no object then get a 2006+ Jag powered L322.

I've got a 2005 BMW X5, 3.0d with the GM box at the garage, same power train and the gearbox has been sent off to be repaired/rebuilt. The torque converter clutch was chirping and scraping like a good'en..... Just short of 3000€ with a brand new converter. That's before labour!!!

If you want a car to use on a daily basis, do not buy an L322, they make a good DIY toy.

I use my 4.4 ajv8 on a daily basis.
Yes it has niggles and gripes but no more than any other car of similar age.
I agree on going for the later petrol if fuel econ is not an issue. If fuel econ is an issue, get one with lpg.
I drove both 4.2s/c and 4.4n/a in ajv8 variant and yes the s/c has a fair more grunt but the n/a is plenty quick and far less to go wrong.
Very pleased with mine but allow yourself 400 quid or so for good diag (I have gap iid)
