Hi all. Any advice on threads (I cannot find an exact match) or help. Just recently bought my 1st Land Rover. 2005 Vogue 4.4 petrol AJ V8. I am experiencing revs jumping up and down between 500 - 900 when in idle. When driving the problem persists. Noticeable especially in cruise control mode. I fitted a new MAF as I had it serviced last week and they said the MAF readings were not right. No change to symptoms. New battery fitted last month although it was a 019 (which my indie said should be an 022) I have read various threads on altenator/battery/MAF/Throttle body and more worryingly torque converter. Would the torque converter affect idle revs etc. I plan to clean the throttle body when I get a chance to see if that resolves anything. All help appreciated. Thanks

Was the new MAF a genuine part?

Update - I finally got the time to have a go at removing the throttle body for cleaning, (after watching a few you tube videos). Unfortunately I did not have small enough socket set to be able to loosen the bottom 2 bolts on the body. I know they are all 8mm but other hoses etc in the way prevented my 1/2" drive accessories to get right in there. Rather than do nothing until I get the proper tools, I decided to clean what I could while the hose from the air filter was removed. I didn't think it was too bad until I started spraying the carb cleaner in. Unbelievable amount of dirt came out. Anyway after cleaning what I could, I reassembled it and started her up. Couldn't believe the idle fluctuation was totally gone. After a short drive to confirm, I did notice that in cruise control, the rev counter did fluctuate still. Not sure if it's the torque converted hunting for a gear or just not level enough road to cruise without need for gear change. I will update again if I find this changes.
