Hi All,

Its been a long time so please be gentle with me if I'm asking a dumb question :)

I have a 2005 RR Sport, 4.2 SC petrol, 125k miles. It was running fine and started on the button every time with no hint of a problem. I drove from home to a shopping centre (approx 10 miles), parked up and an hour later it wouldn't start. Engine turns over fine but it won't start or even splutter as if trying to start. Battery is fine, and I've had it on maintenance charge since parking the car up

This happened last year (August) and as I have been working mostly away I haven't had time to look at it, but my contract ends this week and I'll have a couple of weeks free time.

I do have the IID GAP diagnostics dongle and software so I'm looking at hints as to where to start reading and to begin fault finding.

I seem to remember this could be cam sensor, fuel pump/relay, security system, or maybe something else, so if anyone has any hints or links of what to check I'd appreciate it.

You could check for pressure in the fuel rail for starters, you could also see if it starts with a little squirt of easy start.

The 4.2 sport doesn't have a valve at the fuel rail to test fuel pressure, you will also struggle to find it on the gap tool as iv tried looking for it on my 4.2 sport.

Common issue can be fuel pump if it has ever been run out of fuel, cps or immobiliser which you can check with the gap tool
