Got a 2005 Freelander with the single fuel pump in the O/S rear wheel arch. This morning I got out with car running and the pump sounded very loud, buzzing, clearly audible over the sound of the engine - fairly loud to be honest. Switched off and listened to it priming with just ignition switched on and it buzzed away loudly and also crackled (is the best way I can think of to describe it).

Car has done 99,000, has had a new fuel filter recently but is due to take us up to and around Scotland in little over a week, so it seems best it's changed?

I've come up with part number LR023043, some sites claim it's the TD4 02-06 under-arch pump, but others say it's the secondary under-bonnet pump as well as some claiming it's only for the L322 Range Rover as a secondary pump?

Welcome,

Life of fuel pump is in the region of 100,000, and can get damaged when changing the filter, so suggest it is changed.

No idea about RR ones.

I replaced mine at 122,000 miles with the same as was fitted. You can find them on evil bay, but suggest you get a good quality oem one, rather than a cheap one, as many people ended up changing to a better one not long after. Do job once and right! Expect to pay £120-£170 depending where you get it.

No idea on part number. I bought mine from a Terrain Vehicles, quoted my vrm then they shipped the right one.

I then drove mine up to Isle of Skye, 2000 miles in 2 weeks. No problems since.

I believe this part is also used on a RR. Spotted this a while back when both my pumps failed. I have one under the bonnet and the in-tank one, so an older setup to yours.

Get a new OEM one. Terrain Vehicles are down near me. Used them quite a bit over the years so I can vouch for them if you were to order from them like wot Epicuser did. (No, I don't work for them).

Thanks for your help guys, I'll get on the phone in the morning to make sure I get the right one on order. OEM is a definite no question about that.

Changed my pump and filter a couple of weeks back. There's a couple of 10mm bolts to remove, the push fit fuel connections and the electrical connections and out it comes. Then swapped the filter and pump on a bench. Wouldn't consider trying to change the pump and filter whilst the plastic bracketry is still on the vehicle. All told it took just over an hour to do.

I got a quote from Land Rover who wanted £470 for a "fuel pump assembly".

I went to Euro Car Parts and picked up a Bosch Pump and Filter for a little under £170
