Hello everyone, I bought a 2004 TD4 a month ago, was told just needed a new water pump and it was good to go, also put a thermostat in too, and service. Went to collect her and saw another leak from seems to be the left side of the head( I’m not an expert by any means). My mechanic said he would try steel glue as a cheap fix it should work, that was ok went to collect her and after 3 days leaking again, so obviously she needs a frost plug replacement. It is a right hand drive and I can just see that 1 place leaking at the left side of the head, couple of mechanics said they would replace all the plugs for €1500 but I don’t want that expense, would this be a job that could be done by someone not a mechanic, I would need a hoist or something to mount the engine or is it possible to not have to do that, the space is quiet small to get at, any suggestions would be appreciated, I would not be doing it but my partner is willing to have a go.

If you can take a couple of photos of your problem and post them. There are a few more knowledgeable guys will help.

It's unusual for the plugs to leak, but the one that does is on the UK passenger side of the head, behind the vacuum pump.
It is available, and shouldn't cost anything like €1500 to replace.

I've ringed the likely leak point in red.

Yes that is the exact place I can see the water coming from I put some stop leak in and slowed it a little but I want to get it done, I think Mr Mechanic is trying to pull the wool over my eyes as I’m a woman but i’m not stupid he won’t be getting his holiday paid by me with his €1500 lol, thanks so much

It needs replacing, but it's an easy job, for someone who's done a core plug before.

He's taking the p.ss.
The part is just a few Pence, and shouldn't really take more than an hour to change. It's item No6 on the link below.

Sorry to hijack this posting but I have the same problem on my 1998 FL1.Are the details the same for my vehicle. Meant to be going to Wales in the Xmas period but looks like that could be a non starter. If you could confirm the details that would be amazing. Thanks
