2004 Freelander SE V6 Overheating

The water doesn't seem to be circulating through to the motor and is heating up in about 5min also you can see it bubbling were you put the water in.The oil dip stick is not showing any signs of water getting through its clearly just oil. It's has had the thermostat changed.did not solve the problem.There is no water leaks coming from anywhere.could you give me your opinion hopping it's not a cracked head ...
