Hi All

The previous owner of my Discovery has fitted a Pioneer DEH-150MP head unit in place of the original radio/tape unit. The head-unit itself works fine, however I'm only getting sound from the front speakers. I have read somewhere that the under-seat AMP and CD-Changer needs power (signals) from the head-unit, so changing the head-unit itself might mean that the under-seat modules are not getting power they need, and therefore not proving sounds to the "other" speakers. The CD Changed won't eject the cartridge, so I'm assuming that it's either knackered, or not getting power.

I might have the above completely wrong

My question is has anyone changed the original head-unit with a simple CD/MP3 player and been able to still have all the speakers work? I'm not really bothered about the steering wheel controls, I'd just like to have all the speakers working. If so, can you let me know what model head-unit you used, and if possible a link to the correct ISO connectors.

I've already googled it, but my head started to hurt with the number of head-units and connecters that are available, and I ended more confused that when I started. :(

Is the multi CD player Pioneer? if not is then not compatible with your Pioneer head unit.
Is the head units front/rear balance control set correctly?
What tests have u made with the amp are both voltages at the amp, are the loud speakers terminated correctly?
Are the head units pre amplified outputs connected?

All simple stuff, but as your head is already starting to hurt why no get some one who knows what they are doing to look at it?

1. No idea what make the Multi CD player is. I assume its whatever came with the Discovery out of the factory.
2. Yes, the front/rear balance is set correctly.
3. Haven't looked at the AMP yet. Need to take the seat out first so I can whats what.
4. No idea, the previous owner has fitted what seems to be some sort of interconnector between the headunit and Land Rover audio cable plugs.

As you say, it might be easier if I just give car to someone who knows more about this than I do. :D

Its common for the Alpine changer unit to fail and refuse to eject the cartridge. They can be reconditioned for about £100. On my 2000 model I fitted an Alpine 173Bt that was a straight swap and work all the speakers and has a hands free facility. With yours being a later year I think the "interconnector" you mention is because it has the BMW connector. Try Halfords for the info as they have it all to hand. You will have to pretend you are considering buying a unit from them.
