Considering replacing the current system with an upgraded stereo system. What would people recommend and how much?

That all depends on personal taste and your budget. I'm getting on a bit so my eyes can't see the tiny print on modern stereo controls, so for me, the simpler, the better. My current stereo seems to have a million buttons with microscopic symbols on each one.
