2003 HSE Internal fan running when ignition is off.

My 2003 Rangie HSE is driving me mad. I need some help and advise please.

When I turn off the engine, take the ignition key out and close the door, the internal fan is still running at different speeds. In doing so it drains the battery in no time at all. Some times it goes off straight away, but for the last few days it's stayed on constant. I can't do anything to stop it running and knackeing the battery.

If I lock the door with the keys and the battery goes flat it dead locks me out.

What's the best plan of attack on it.

Hi mate, and welcome to the forum. You need to replace the HVAC final resistor, it's about 40 quid off eBay, they are a very common fault on these cars, I had to replace mine, download a copy of the RAVE from the green oval and it's got the instructions on how to replace the resistor. If you do a search on here there is loads on the issue, people call it the hedgehog because the component that you have to replace looks like a hedgehog.

Hi Lee The Green Oval - Downloads | Land Rover Data this is the green oval website you need to to download disc 2, the RAVE is the Land Rover workshop manual and workshop manual, it contains info on anything you want to do on your range rover. The resistor you need is the following Range Rover Heater Blower Regulator Resistor on eBay (end time 22-Sep-10 19:44:47 BST)

Just to check, is the fan noise the heater fan or is it a quiet humming type of noise? As in the centre of the centre console, next underneath the passenger temperate control switch is a small grill, behind this grill is small fan this is the car temperature sensor and it does run as soon as you unlock the car and carries on running for a period of time after you have locked the car.

Thanks for the link.

The fan is the internal climate control fan. It varies it's speed, but doesn't blow into the car. It's not the fan which activates as soon as you open the door etc.

I've put a brand new Bosch battery on it the other month and it sinks the battery in no time.

I've had a look at the file and I've begun to download it.

What size battery did you put on it? It needs to be a 110Ah with at least 850 cranking amps anything smaller and it will not last. When I first got my rangie the previous owner had put a bosch 90Ah battery only 6 months before I got it and I had to replace it as it wasn't lasting long enough. Has you car had any headlight upgrades to the 2006 spec? As my car had this done and has caused battery drain issues just like your talking of.

I'll check the battery. The head lights are all factory standard.
