hey guys,

2003 manual Td5

strange one happened to me yesterday, I use my disco every day but from Monday 5 o clock until Tuesday 6 o clock it wasn't used, I turned the key and it was dead as a dodo, started not even turning.

dropped on some jump leads left it 2 minutes and boom fire up no problem and has been started and stopped around 8 times since with no issues.

no interior lights or radio was left on so I'm not sure what happened.

any one got any ideas??

cheers

I recon its gonna be the battery, they can behave strangely when they start to give up. I once had a diesel fiesta that was starting and running perfectly, stalled it at the lights one day and it was totally dead not even the dash lights coming on that turned out to be the battery. Cheapest place to get one seems to be Europarts especially if they've got an online promo going. I'd avoid Bosch. Good Luck

make sure the clamps are well tightened

This makes a lot of sense - you may have inadvertently fixed the problem when you put the jump leads on.

So I would check the battery clamps and if loose then check the battery somehow.

If they all seem fine I guess I have to ask - did you leave the lights on?

This happened to me recently. If your battery is getting past its sell-by date the cold weather will reveal it - a quick boost from a battery charger will give it a surface charge but it won't hold the charge for long. It could be the connections but if it happens again change out the battery. That's what I did and its been fine - it was instantly noticeable by the way it spun up faster and caught earlier.
If you know someone with a Halfords trade card it'll save a good few quid.
