Hi,
When car is cold ie. first run in the morning, when I reverse out the drive and depress the clutch pedal (vehicle not moving) I am getting a noise like a dry bearing, can anyone confirm that it is more than likely the clutch release bearing. I have just had a new clutch fitted, I had a slight noise when it went in, when it came back it was fine and now it's started again only worse.

Thanks and Regards

hello,
Thanks for reply, not a Landrover dealer, but they have done them before and I assume it was a full kit, I've used this garage many times and they don't skimp on parts. I've just read on another forum that several owners have exactly the same problem and that the noise appears when the car is free wheeling in reverse (in gear) with the clutch pedal half way down.
Some have said it's not the thrust bearing but probably the flywheel, but I doubt it. The last post from one guy said it would be the spigot bearing, which I suppose is likely. Mine used to do it only when the car was moving
backwards, it now does it when it is sationary, but only when the clutch pedal is pressed and when it is cold, once it's warmed up it's fine for the rest of the day. Annoying and embarassing!

my rule of thumb on that and taking in account ive spent years working on hgvs ect that the practice of free wheeling with clutch down in reverse is a no no especialy depressed only half way, take the weight of the vehicle and the momentom and clutch depressed half way even with new clutch would cause a clutch slip,

Nope, I think we're at cross purposes here.
When I talk about reversing with the clutch pedal halfway down, what I am trying to say is that when I reverse out of my drive in the morning as I get to the public road there comes a point when I have to press the clutch pedal to allow me to stop to look for traffic and it is this point when the vehicle is still moving (backwards) and the clutch is disengaged that I get a noise like a dry bearing from the clutch.

Hope that makes more sense.

i stand corrected sorry, i would be tempted to ask the garage if they changed the bearing as the noise its making is the thrust bearing its more than possiable it could self cure or get worse, annoying as it is, normaly if i change a clutch i do the 3 because of the hassle to do again regarding if its worn or not, as ive been bitten to many times by not doing it.
