Hi guys.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere reputable in the North Manchester area or Manchester area in general I can get my clutch sorted. Clutch pedal has been a bit iffy over the last two days. Went to put it on the drive last night, as soon as I went to set off, it was as though the front wheels were wheel spinning, like literally bouncing. Same as I reversed it and went forward again. Went to get the car out today and when I dip the clutch pedal, there's allsorts of horrible screaming noises. It sounds like it's possessed.

Tried to reverse off the drive and nothing happens, tried again, it kicked as though it was going to move, like rapidly. Usual pressure now and again when I press the pedal, then when I try it again, it falls to the floor.

Now I can't get it off the drive, so it's either going to need collecting or doing where it is. Phoned a few places and one said it sounds like the DMF needs replacing. Could be wrong but I thought it was a solid fly wheel on the K series 1.8 petrol? Any advice would be appreciated as otherwise I feel as though I'm going to end up with a con merchant who's going to try and have me over.

Help!

Any replies really appreciated. Off to bed now as my head is banging, but I'll reply to any replies tomorrow.

Tom.

I believe you are correct, the k series flywheel is solid. Your description of the fault sounds like the clutch is falling to pieces. At least it has failed outside your house, usually they fail in the most inconvenient place possible.

Thanks for confirming as regards the solid fly wheel guys, much appreciated. Hopefully someone will know a reputable place for me to contact to get it sorted.

Yep, can cofirm. My clutch plate springs shattered and got stuck behind pressure plate last week jamming the pressure plate up solid. It decided the best place to do this would be as i pulled off the roundabout onto a several mile long dual carriageway with no hard shoulder as i tried pulling out of second and into third.

Ouch! I had mine in the garage, got it back Thursday. Clutch had definitely gone as I suspected. Got a price for that which included recovery and delivery back home as I couldn't get it off the drive. They got it in the garage, got a phone call to say there was good news and bad news. Clutch was being sorted, no problem. Unfortunately there was a leak on the transfer box I think, so they had to sort that. All in all, including recovery and delivery back home, parts, labour, etc came to £573.00. And they washed the car too, it was spotless when it came back which I wasn't expecting. Unfortunately, I popped to the shop tonight, car is driving great. Came out of the shop, put the key in the ignition and turned it. Nothing, and I mean nothing. No noise, rattle, clatter, absolutely dead. Sat there for about 15 mins trying it over and over again, still dead. Locked it, unlocked it, tried it, still dead. Had to get some guys who were passing to give me a push jump start. Got it home, put it on the drive. Tried starting it again, dead. Ready for loosing the plot with it now. Thinking maybe a sensor, cam maybe??? Any advice appreciated.

Did the starter turn the engine over? If not it could be a loose connection from when the garage did the work. If it was almost anything else, e.g. a sensor, it probably wouldn't have started with a push.

Hiya Col.

Turned the key, absolutely nothing. No clicking, no noise from starter motor or anything. It was just dead. I've banged it on charge this morning, battery charger was reading 5 when I put it on. It's now down to about 1, so I'll see if it'll start. If it does, I'll leave it running a while, turn it off and try and restart it. Hopefully it'll start again. Just mothered about going anywhere in it and getting stranded again.

Thanks again pal.
