The 2002 51 plate 2.5dhse with 99000 miles i bought 4 weeks ago decided to chuck a conrod through the block when in Ireland on Wednesday but luckily with the AA so got it back to Lanarkshire Scotland.

Now looking at either a 2 grand repair bill which i cant afford or selling as spares or repair and losing thousands.

Bodywork and interior is in fantastic condition with all leather including door trims, side steps, drink holders in central console,18 inch hurricane alloys, spring conversion.Mot runs until feb 2012 and tax until dec 2011.

Anyone got any opinions on how much i could get selling for spares or repair.

Think a second hand engine would be best bet. But if you can't change it yourself the dilema returns.

Hi, i buy non-running range rovers every day, i can give you a decent price for this one, but will need you to get it delivered to me in west sussex on a recovery truck, i don't know how much it would cost though?

Second hand engine's from £400 on the bay.
whats stopping you from changing it??? Tools or knowledge??
You may find the peeps on here will help in exchange for a few beers tokens.
Best of luck with whatever you decide.

£544 max for an engine swap here, working on a 2 day basis as thats the maximum time LR quoted for my swap at £34 p/h over two 8 hour days…….or thats the theory

Hoping it'll take less time

Your garage is definitely over charging you, could you not claim through insurance and then just suck it up and pay an extra £100 on your premium next year ?

Spoke to two local mechanics, one who is land rover qualified and both have quoted around 2 grand to supply and fit(not garage rates) but have said this engine is hard to source so could be without a car for a few months.

The car is used daily for commuting so another problem.

Would prefer to keep the car due to its condition and being a brilliant drive.

He's one with a Buy it Now of less than £400 plus £55 shipping...in other words within a £500 budget:

range rover p38 2.5 td omega 325 6 cylinder complete diesel engine m51 | eBay

I know even less about diesels than petrols (which means bugger all) but I think there are some ancillaries from your engine that you'd need to swap over, but for £1500 quid labour it strikes me the mechanics you've approached are either charging rates of £150/hr  or they don't know anything about the job they've quoted on...

HTH?

Malcolm

Thanks for all the advice.

Tried a few more garages today and still quoted around £1800 + to supply and fit.

So decided to try and get as much for the car as a spares or repair.

Feel free to PM with any offers.Buyer to collect.

whats up with you man, listen to the above, source an engine yourself, and then get it fitted , make a post on here in the general land rover secion, and pop in local garages and speak to lads, not the bosses, ask for cash job to swap it over , shouldnt cost more than 3/400 topps for the labour
