Have now fitted the de-catt pipe and had an opportunity to test the effects on mpg.

In the last two days I've just done 475kms on 40 ltrs of fuel. The bulk of the miles were done on motorway at 60-ish mph, towing a bike trailer plus bike so less than 500kgs. Some performance testing and some around town work. So a good mixture for me.

475/1.6 = 297mls
40ltrs/4.54 = 8.8galls

Therefore mpg over that period was 297/8.8 = 33.75mpg !!!!

The engine is smoother, more powerful when I need it and just a pleasure to drive.

So roughly 3 to 4 mpg improvement, that would make my 24 mpg into more like 28 29 i'd be well happy then.

Just can i be bothered to go out int he cold and change it over. Does it take long to do and was it too tricky?

Having done it once I would say it is an easy job, you know what it's like, the first time you fârt about doing it, the second time it's a breeze.

The key thing for me was to buy a "grips on faces" 10mm half inch socket. This made it soooooooh easy to get the crossmembers off.

To do the job I first of all slackened the fixing on the downpipe to turb and downpîpe to mid section, to ensure I was going to be able to get the old one off !!!!!!

Then remove the two crossmembers, take off the downpipe fixings, wriggle it off the rubber mount and BOB is your uncle.

Copper-greased all the fixings before putting the new pipe on.

The right tool is the key to doing this job easily.

The biggest hassle I had was drilling out and re-tapping after the " crossmember bolt shear off lottery game " !!.

The only thing I,ve noticed since doing it is a really nice turbo sound from the exhaust.

Yet to do a full tank to see any mpg improvements. ( and probably not the tankfull anyway as i,m going to be towing my " new " 200 tdi Disco to a pay and play site on sunday ).
