Hi guys I'm new to this site, I have a freelander 2001. (petrol 1.8).. I was told head gasket had gone so I have had this replaced with all gaskets and bolts replaced. The car is now over fuelling like crazy I have had the injectors and rail replaced and still no different. The car won't start it's that bad and now seems to be exhausting the fumes out if the throttle body??? If they remove the inlet manifold of the head slightly the car trys to start.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks Steve

have you put the cam pulleys on correctly on there dowels for inlet and exhaust as pulleys are interchangeable and used locking kit for cam?

I presume so as the work was carried out at a garage. Sorry can not of any more help to your question mate.

Will contact the garage to find out. I was told the Ecu goes wrong on these is this true??? Causing them to over fuel.

It sounds like they are full of ****, several people have done head gaskets on 1.8 k series and put the pulleys on wrong slot which makes timing line up but won't start

if you look where pulley bolts go in picture you will see a dowel/roll pin and two slots the pin must be in inlet for inlet and exhaust for exhaust.

the locking block lines inlet at 3 o'clock and exhaust at 9 o'clock.

If it ran before I'm dubious that it could miraculously go wrong while head gasket done

Ok quick update, timing is now sorted. The car still won't run. Car has fuel and spark. Although towing the car to start it works only it will not idle once revs drop it cuts out. Then it still won't go on the key. Again drag it down the road and it STARTS. as said wont idle have to keeps revs up.

Any more info will be greatly received.

If it cooked up the rings may have stuck, put a teaspoon of oil in each plug hole-spin engine over. Refit plugs and drag it up the road. Towed 4th gear ignition on full throttle-it should gradually improve. Just be careful when it goes not to drive in the back of tow vehicle.
