Recently when towing at full weight, I am finding it is having to rev higher and longer before shifting up. When it does shift up it seems to lock up ok and revs fall back to where they should be, then as I accelerate up in the next gear it happens all over again.
The fluid and filter were changed about 6 months ago(2000mls).

I am also feeling a slight vibration coming through, just like being on a ribbed road.
Could the symptoms be a faulty clutch or the need for a H.D. Torque converter? like the Allinson one.

I got away lucky yesterday when the top hose blew on me as I was taking a Load of wood down our field, so was able to stop the engine straight away without cooking the head.
I dont want a complete failure on the gearbox/TQ. side, as I might not be as lucky next time.
Looking forward to any thoughts on this.

The gear-change points on the D2 are managed by the EATS (autobox ecu) and take into account, among other things, the demand (amount of accelerator pedal) applied.

As a result of this, when you are towing you are asking more from the engine, so when the 'box is in D with TC locked-up and you press the pedal for more power the 'box thinks you want to "kick-down" a gear so it has to come out of TC lock-up to then perhaps drop from 4th to 3rd.

Whilst it would do no harm to check the 'box fluid level, it sounds to me from what you've said that it is behaving normally.

Cheers for that Dave. Normally under full load, I tend to use the box manually in 1st,2nd & 3rd, and not using D at all.
Running without a trailer, I have noticed a big dropoff in the last few months in speed in D, on any sort of incline. This is not due to lack of engine power, its almost the same as you would get from a manual box with a badly slipping clutch.
Alongside this, my mpg is getting lower and lower, 18-19mpg with the trailer, and 21-22mpg without. I was getting 21with, and 25+ without.

In addition to my first post, my mechanic got me a new top hose and fitted it for me, only to find that when he filled her up with antifreeze, it was just pouring out of a crack in the rad. Cant get one till monday now, so I have told him to get the intercooler flushed out and get rid in the crap thats in it. I didnt get it done when I blanked the egr off. Maybe it will help a bit with the power side.

I can't remember if you said that you have cleaned the MAP on the inlet manifold?

Dave

I hold my hands up Dave...... I remember you telling me I should, but it had gone completely out of my mind till now. It WILL be done this next week as soon as I get her back. Thankyou for reminding me.
John.

Got the motor back today. New Rad, 2 new hoses, intercooler cleaned out, new silicone hoses fitted, new maf sensor, new air filter. Just got the map to clean now. That will be done tomorrow, so heres hoping we have made some improvements. Will keep you posted.
