Hi

We brought our Freelander XEDi (manufac 2000) for a service and MOT last week. When we picked it up, we found that we kept losing power on acceleration. We returned to the garage who kept the the car overnight and they replaced the fuel fliter.

We picked it up the next day and it seemed fine but that night we had the problem again.

We brought it back to the garage (who when they lifted bonnet we saw that they had forgot to put back on the black engine cover). They had another look and saw that one of the injectors was leaking a small amount of fuel and that this could be the problem.

I feel that they were looking to absolve themselves of any responsibility and could not answer why the problem with acceleration was not consistent (if it was the injector problem) or why it only started after the service.

This is a nationwide chain who now dont want to know. I would appreciate any advice as Idont know the cause of the underlying problem or how to proceed.

Cheers

Hi

K***f*t did the work. They have now acknowledged that there is a problem (but claim its unrelated to the service) and are currently looking at the solenoid as a possible cause of the problem.

Cheers

I wouldn't even let KWKFT balance my tyres - they put my GF's wheels on the wrong rotation direction - subsquently failed it's MOT a while later.

If LR approved and specialist garages have trouble with these, what chance have a bunch of spotty textpert yoofs ?

Hi

Brought it to a Landrover dealer today who ran a diagnostics check and could not find any problem (although they spotted that the rear differential was broken - something that K*F*T failed to do. They also saw some fuel leaking from one of the injectors and will fix both of these problems next week.

Unfortunately, the accellerator/loss of problem did not happen while driving the car there or back so they could not do anything. Of course, I jumped in the car tonight, turned on the engine and it happened straight away.

Im now thinking that I have to wait until the problem occurs and then literally drive the car to the garage in that state so they can see the problem.

To be fair, if a Landrover dealer has not seen the problem then what chance would K*F*T have.

Any thoughts on the cause of the problem would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Just a quick update

The landrover specialist think it * might* be the throttle potentiometer and have referred me to a specialist company with more sophisticated electronicequipment and they will have a look at the throttle potentiometer and whether it needs replacing.

The Cause And Solution.

OK. The electrical specialists hooked up the freelander to the Bosch diagnostics to no avail. They had a quick spin around the block and the problem did not reappear. It started to rain so they turned on the lights and VOILA the problem appeared.

They looked at the car from behind and noticed that the break lights were permanently on. At this point they rang me and asked if any bulbs were replaced during the service and I looked at my bill and noticed that an offside rear breaklight bulb was replaced.

They examined this bulb and found that a 382 bulb had been jammed (their words) in the light fitting. This bulb has a single connector rather than a positive and negative connector and thus was shorting the drive-by-wire electrics every time the lights were turned on.

They replaced the bulb with the correct 380 bulb and bingo the accelerator problem disappeared. Just to make a botch job of it all together K*F*T list the bulb on my bill as a 501 12V 5W bulb (which is the bulb for the interior map lights).

Im delighted that the problem is resolved but Im £150 down for the electrical inspection and I plan to ask K*F*T to make good on this.

I will let you know how I get on. Thanks for the suggestions and I hope that this thread helps someone in the unlikely event that this happens to someone else.

Cheers

This has come up before and no doubt will again but there was nothing in the opening post that suggested a connection with lights etc. Glad you found it though. :)
