what is the engine warning lamp for the early 2000 L series Freelander

the reson i asked is i was messing about with my hawkeye running test and one was to bring on the Engine warning light

after pressing the Tick button to bring it on no light come on

also i take it the Hawkeye cnt get EKA codes

Looks like this :

Hawkeye can't read EKA in early FLs. IIRC i go to autologic for that.

hmmmmm mine doent work dnt have a problem but as it was doing checks its something i would need to sort now

and Winu your a star thank you

No problem :)

It should light up every time you turn the key for II pos, as a bulb test. Maybe it's just a blown bulb.

does the light come on with the ignition or only when theres a fault

reason i asked took dash apart and there no bulb or bulb holder so i swapped one over and still didnt come on with the ignition

It should come when you turn key to ignition, light for 2-3 seconds as bulb test and extinguish if there is no faults in ECU memory.

nope doesnt do a bulb test if i use the Hawkeye to bring the Lamp on to test it doesnt work either

i no i have ignition live to the bulb and if i earth it it will come on but that was just a test as Autodata says the green orange wire goes to Pin 4 on the ECU which clearly grounds through

but my thing is now what do i do to rectify it

right guys really need some info

the Mil wire from the ECU is fine using buzzer on multimeter so that ok
the Ignition is going to the bulb so thats fine

but the Bulb WILL NOT light up for a bulb test

update followed the green/orange wire the way to pin 4 and the wire is good no resistance

took the top of the ECU off to find all the pins are ok and in tacked none rusty and look good....

now my only thing is does this mean my ECU is faulty

Unplug the ECU and trace the MIL earth wire location in the multi plug, measure the voltage with the ignition on to make sure the wiring is ok. You should get a reading around NBV.
In theory once you have checked everything, earthing that wire should put the light on but I'm not sure if doing this might upset something else. I can't remember if there is dash control unit.

i took all the plug apart to check today and i got no voltage down the green orange wire this is the wire that leads to the ECU

If you have no voltage then there is a break in the wiring between the ECU and the dash light. The good news is it's not likely to be the ECU.

using my multimeter i put it on beep to test the wiring and the wiring was fine as i say the live is ignition and goes to the bulb so i no its got power which is why i said about this wire but the wire itself is fine but unless that earth is completed then there wont be a voltage...

just out looking into this abit more and took the dials back out the car

i tested the ground to ignition screws 12.34 volts

remove the Mil light bulb and test the live part where the bulbs is 12.34v to earth on car

now i test the ignition live to earth hat the cable uses to the ECU and it reads 4.43 volts

now if i test the cable from dials to ecu at the ecu it is 5.05 volts thats to battery

another hour past i think im getting somewhere

12v to the bulb as normal

but the 12 volts is traveling down the wire which should earth out which it clearly isnt

how do i rectify this the earth works through the ecu..... to test i opened the wire and ran a wire to earth and Bingo the BULB WORKS but when i take it off it doesnt

Also My Fuel pump Buzzes like a good en and it loud
