200 Tdi Temperature Issue

Hi,

I have recently stuck a 200 tdi into my 90 (used to be a 19J)

I've got a bit of a problem with the temperature/poss temp. gauge? (I dunno)

Normal driving, say A/B Roads temp. is fine, just over half way on the gauge. However, if I'm in low ratio and doing a bit of green laning and steadily going over obstacles with engine under load, the temp. gauge literally goes off the scale. This also happens if I'm doing 60mph+ on the Motorway.

Any idea what this could be?

It's a cracking engine, but I'm just at a loss at wht this could be...Water Pump do you think? Oh yes, it's got no thermostat either.

are you using the temp sender off of the tdi or the 19j? have you checked the actual temp of the engine and made sure the gauge is reading correctly?

As daft as this sounds, how do you test the temp. of the engine? :?

To be honest with you, I can't remember what I've used. I'm guessing they are only a few quid to buy from Paddocks anyway.

Do they use the same thread/size hole etc?

personally i would use an infared thermometer.....

I already did a search, but they were all saying the needle was slightly to the right of the normal line. Not right of the red area.

its most likely that its the wrong sensor and you will need the 19j one

Ok, I'll pop into Paddocks tomorrow and go for the cheaper option of getting a new sender first.
