Hi There,

I have had a couple of occasions in the last 3 month where the Landy wont start! the ignition light and oil light come on, but its as if it's dead i.e. it doesnt even try to turn over.

Lights and accessories are working and if I bounce it off it starts straight away.

Happened yesterday, started ok, drove around 5 miles, took dogs for a walk (around an hour) returned to 90 and wouldnt start, bounced it off and when I got home it started fine, same again in the evening.

Any ideas? feels like it could be the starter solenoid, what do you think?

Only had the 90 since Jan and it dont get used a lot, any help appreciated.

Steve

yep starter solenoid... i would give the terminals a good clean first... and if you have the time strip n clean but replacement is quick and fairly painless

carry a long socket bar n give it whack next time it happens... usually does the trick in an emergency n saves bumping it, especially if u r on your own

cheers steve

Thanks guys, will get under and check out connections etc, is the solenoid part of the starter motor or seperate.

Had a 300TDI about ten years since and just sold a series 2A but fairly new to the 200!

Trust me, i had all this yesterday. Before you do anything with the starter, check your battery is fully charged and keeping charge and your alt is throwing out the correct voltage. It may not be the problem but worth doing anyway.

Another thing worth checking before you pull everything off is your actuator wire from ignition switch to solenoid is good.

Just put a spade on a spare length of wire and the next time she won't turn over pull off the original wire and use the new to connect direct to the battery +ve.....if it turns you have a problem with either the ignition switch or actuator wire/connection
