Hi to everyone this is my first post but have read many usefull tips on here so thanks.
now down to the question.
I have swapped my 2.25 petrol out and put a 200tdi from a disco in minus the turbo for now. every thing seems ok except the flywheel housing wading plug seems to be touching the cross member .I was hoping someone here has had the same issue and can shed some light as to the solution ,I was thinking of putting spacers under the rubber mounts on both engine and gearbox any thoughts on this would be great. I did not check the clearance on the old engine before I took it out but if i remember it was very close.
the landrover is a
series 3 1972
the chassis was replaced 7 years ago
the engine mounts are new ones I have checked the height and they are the same as old ones.
many thanks

hi there mate, your best bet i know of is to take the crossmember (gear box!) off and then to move it down by say 6mm but saying that is it actually still fitting but a tight squeeze? if the cross member causes hastle then you could always take the crossmember and weld it back into place using a spacer system home made for the gear box, but to be honnest your best bet is to use a guide i'll try and find you one hang on!!

Hi thanks for reply, I have put a 6mm spacer under rubber mount on engine
and now have about 5mm of clearance on cross member, do you know how much clearance there is usually, I will get new gearbox mounts and raise them by 6mm and see what I have then. I am considering removing the wading plug to get another 8mm or cutting a hole up through the cross member about 30mm and welding a piece of tube in.

you only need to put spacers under engine mounts so job done theres is only a small amount of clearance anyhow so 5mm will be okay

Ive just stuck a 200 in my s2 and looked at the gap the other day and thought whoops hope i never need to get a wading plug in there, its as James says approx 6mm clearance.
I dont know what its like on a s3 but you wont be able to go to high as the bulge in the flywheel housing for the starter is very close to the bulkhead.

yes the situation is a lynall stated,

plus you cant go to high for the strain on the drive train i found this on my 90 hope this helps and good job by the sounds of things:5bcheers2:.

Hi thanks all for the help, feel better knowing that all looks well now, as I was unsure how much clearance was ok, As some of you have done this conversion
how did you go about connecting the fuel line from tank to pump as the pump has the compression fitting on, any thoughts on this, also which root did you take for throttle linkage rod or cable not made my mind up on this one yet.
thanks again
