Hi everyone,

I had a new radiator put on my 2005 RR a month ago as the old one was leaking. Within 2 weeks the new one was also leaking so it was taken out and sent back to Land Rover. I had another one from Land Rover fitted and with 2 weeks this one to was also leaking !! My RR is booked back in next week for another look but i'm now starting to worry that maybe the head gasket is on the way out but am unsure what to check for ? Is this a possibility or am i worrying about nothing ? Maybe Land Rover have a dodgy batch of radiators (wishful thinking i know :biggrin1:)

Thanks for any advice, i'm scratching my head here !

might be worth changing the cap on top of your expansion tank, the relief valve in there should operate well before it blows the rad

Thanks Gegs88, its back at the garage today to be checked out again, hopefully to be resolved ! I must admit the head gasket was just the worst case worry i have lol most people seem to have water pump issues/failures, white smoke, gunk in oil etc i dont seem to have any of those issues, just this bl@@dy radiator problem but its so frustrating. Loads of things i want to do to my RR but depends on what money i have to spend out fixing first !

Well, after my last post in March on this issue, i have had 2 breakdowns in the last 2 weeks !! Firstly, the top hose to the radiator came off whilst foot down overtaking miss daisy ! That was replaced and a week later a lower down hose came off, spilling all coolant. Had it at the garage who put the bottom hose back on and ran it for a while and they said it was building up pressure again, they tried to do a test for head gasket failure which showed up inconclusive. They think the head gaskets need changing (they're not trying to rip me off either as they wont touch it for head gaskets as its LPG converted).
Is there anything else it could be before i spend money i dont have
There have been no other signs of head gaskets going, no gunk under oil filler cap, no smoke etc etc
Just wondering what else could cause it to keep blowing hoses off and building up pressure ?
Cheers, any suggestions appreciated :)

Run it on petrol and if it doesn't pressurise then you have lpg vaporiser fault.

also see if coolant stinks of lpg

Get someone who has half a clue and a mot gas analyser- not the fluid HGF detectors- start engine and put probe under bonnet (background HYDROCARBONS)

place probe over open header tank- if HC jump= HGF

Thanks Fanatic, tried what you said .... It was the head gaskets :(
Anyway, been in the garage and ready to pick up today, £1300 poorer for Christmas but at least i get the car back, and having driven about in an old citroen for 3 and a half weeks i can't wait lol !!

the 4.4 does like its headgaskets.

shame the didnt stick with the 4.0 (not the rv8 the bmw one) same power and head gaskts last forever oops shouldnt have said that  :p
