First issue: Just did 270 miles of motorway driving on £50 (just under 42 litres) of fuel, I thought that's quite good. It's a manual TD5 and I averaged 70 MPH.

Second issue: at the halfway point I pulled into the services for a brew and couldn't get out of 5th gear, What's that all about? It was properly stuck, I had to coast into a parking spot and then eventually after much pulling and pushing in and out of all the gears it started to free up. Any ideas?? It didn't feel like a clutch issue, felt more like the gear lever.

I believe that I know exactly what the problem is and the good news is it's dirt cheap to fix.

At the base of the gear lever there is ball and socket arrangement that is at least part-made of plastic and this expands on older vehicles and baulks the gearchange after a long hot run.

Check RAVE for full info, but basically an easy job to do and the bits are for nowt !!!!

Good news huh? :D:D:D:D:D

Do hope I'm right after all that crowing?:eek::eek::eek:

Good luck and please do report back, even if I've been talking crâp,

Cheers
Dave
