Gents,
I know it's not a popular conversion, but has anyone fitted the 6 pot 2.6 in an 88"?
What engine mounts, does it fit dirrect to series gbox, do you have to cut anything about?
I know there's no great power increase etc, I just love the engine.
My series 3, has a 2 1/4 petrol (possible of 2a origin), and has grumbles from the bottom end (she's fine at the mo, well oil light goes out!).
Just looking at my options.
Don't really want to fit a disco, 2.5 diesel.
many thanks
David

You are right that this isnt common,6cyl drives OK but is very juicy.Ive had 6cyl vehicle before but with other engines. My memory is that the mounts etc. are similar but I think the bulkhead and trans tunnel may be different to get the longer block in.I do know the bulkhead is really close to the bell housing and it was very hard to get the bolts in.If it proves a pain 2.5n/a diesel isgreat in 88".Best of luck.:)

wasn't the 6pot rover engine an option in the 2A?
Yes, it was, but only for the 109. Mostly they went in the station wagons with this option because they were marginally smoother running and had 'status'.
I have a 2A truck that originally had one though....

I'm with you in that they sound great and are smooth. The problem is that being overhead inlet/side exhaust the gas flow is crap- hence the thirst...and they are thirsty. Reported MPG is about 12 (I kid you not).

Would be more useable on LPG, which they do without re-valving (Stellite exhaust seats fitted as standard). Being a side exhast valve though, they are still very prone to burning seats due to retarded timing so that need watching.

Parts obtainable, but a bit more of a hunt than the 2.25. Made until 1980, so was also a (rare) option in S3.

Up to you, but apart from the noise it doesn't have much going for it..:)
