2.5V6 Fuel and Water problems

Here goes, long story but bear with me......

About 8 weeks ago i had a water/coolant leak, after much investigation it turned out to be the thermostat and housing (housing had disintegrated!) which was changed by local garage. When i got the car back it had a very strong petrol smell which, after removing the top cover turned out to be the fuel line connection to the Injection rail spewing petrol everywhere (cost a small fortune in petrol!) Took this back as it was not like this before and it turns out this has to be removed whe replacing the thermostat. after several attempts and not wishing to buy a new rail, the garage fixed it.

Now i have a strange problem that might be related.

I am using loads of petrol, currently just pottering back and forth to the station and general errands around town which involve dual carriageways, but am only getting around 140-50 miles out of a tank full (used to be 230+ more on long motorway journeys) also these is a small fuel smell when i reverse (assume where i go through the exahust fumes) and sniffing on tick over. There is no evidence of a leak or the usual mayonaise in the engine. Anyone got any ideas? though about O2 sensors, recently serviced with filters changed (albeit before the stat problems).

Any advice appreciated as i need to go on a long journey soon and do not want to be paying loads in petrol!

When removing the filler cap, do you get a hiss? If not, then it may be the system has a leak.

Have you taken it back to the garage with this fault? Should be their problem.

Take it back to the garage, they must have done something wrong, are you sure it is not leaking anywhere from the fuel rail. They have push in fittings held in with a clip and an 'O' ring to seal them, and are a pig to refit when you remove an inlet manifold to change the thermostat.

would you know the part number for the o rings on the fuel rail for a v6. Not those on the injectors. But on the rail where it joins the other fuel rail.

If it's the o ring rubber thing in ere, then it comes as part of the plastic pipe. Fekin eggspensive - no surprise with it being a v6 part. May be betterer off with a bag of mixed size o rings and see what fits and does the job.
