Hi All,

I have a 1997 P38 2.5 diesel range rover. I have been having problems with it over heating. I flushed the rad out, took out the thermostat, bleed the system to get all the air out but it still kept pressurising the cooling system. I figured it could either be head gasket or cracked head, I had it pressure tested and a crack was found between the valves in one of the cylinders.

I have heard that this is a common problem, is it possible to get it welded or that just a temporary fix?

I have been told that there are two different heads that go on this block and the difference is the inlet manifold studs pattern, is this correct or are there any other differences?

The engine has a plastic inlet manifold, I have been trying to find a reconditioned head but the only ones I have found have had a metal manifold. Is it possible to get one of these and get a metal manifold or would I get other issues with this.

Any advice/ help appreciated

Alex

hi there its a waste of time welding it . cast iron can be welded but its never reliable best find second hand head ! the 19j usualy cracks pistons so you shoul find plenty of heads on ebay !!! if you cant find one i think ive got a good one in one of my sheds . ! broken tons of em up over the years ,
