2.5NA question

With a 5 speed gear box it'll do 70 at least, although I only do 55 in it. I haven't worked out the MPG yet, but I know it does more than the 2 1/4 petrol, and also the 2 1/4 diesel na as well :) From what I gather, the 200tdi is the one to go for if you want really good mpg though.

Fair enough, 200tdi it is then, whats the performance with them like then? Top speed, mpg, noice etc?

The 2.5NA is a fine engine. Tough, reliable and simple. With enough gears and 26 hours in every day, these engines will do all you ask of them - it might just take a little longer.

The 200 TDI is a quantum leap forward. Direct injection and turbo. Twice the torque and more than half as much again power, and probably more economical overall than the 2.5NA. It just might not be quite as easy to fix, or as reliable, BUT, they do say a good 200tdi is the ultimate version of the Landy 2.5 engines.

If you have one of each, it isn't much of a decision!

Fair enough, TDI it is if I can get one then. Another question though, is it worth putting a disco transfer box with its higher rations in a defender or is it a pointless and silly?
Daft question, but I've only ever had series you see!

I have a disco transfer box in my 110 (200TDi conversion), and i estimate i am getting around 30MPG, it has got a full length roof rack on. The combination makes a very drivable landy speed wise, as for top speed, not got a clue it got to 70 easy then the noise made me back off. I tend to stick around 55-60mph.

get 32 mpg from my 200 tdi, will do 75mph comfortably and is still impressive towing an Ifor Williams flatbed trailer with another Defender on it! Get a 200 tdi defender engine if you can. NA diesel only any fun offroad where speed isn't everything.
