Hi! Guys,
I have a 1990 Defender 110 which did not have PAS, but had an A/C not sure if it was factory fitted or an afteramarket.

Just last week added a PAS & also got the A/C compressor serviced and now everything is working fine. A pleasure to drive the defender with the PAS.

But now my problem is that its very sluggish with the A/C on and without much better. Also its overheating a lot. Is there any remedy for this. The needle is always on the border of the orange colour in the temp gauge. Its hardly in the white area. Mostly between the white and orange portion of the temp gauge.

My question is : Can a 2.5 N/A Diesel handle the A/C & PAS at the same time? Is the load too much for the 2.5 N/A?

Will fitting two Kenlow fans help. What size of fans will help.

surely if it was a 1990 model it would be a 200 or 300TDi. or did Landrover carry on selling the N/A to overseas customers all the way upto 1990?? I wouldn't have thought the N/A would have handled A/C verywell anyway. Sounds like the combination of A/C & PAS has proven to be too much for the old gorl.

2.5NA in my 1990 90 - as sold to the police.

Only real differnces were HD suspension - bigger RAD (it was FFR police spec).

Thanks for the responce. Yes its a 1990 RHD Defender 110 with a 2.5 N/A Diesel and a LT77 gearbox. The PAS was not there, added it and now with the A/C too.

Will check the thermostat and rad.

when you sasy its overheating do you mean it actually gets to the point where its boiling over?..every landy will prob run at a different temp on the guage,my old td used to run at the end of the white section on the guage and i used to panic and pull over and wait for it to cool,i mechanic recommended i run it past this point as he said the thermostat might not be operating correctly, this i did and when the guage went past the end of the white the thermostat must have opend as the temp would then come down to half way on the guage,,you could check thermostat, you could check back of radiator as if this is full of mud it will restrict airflow, check viscous fan see if its working properly
