could be a siezed/bent inlet valve? remove inlet manifold will identify which pot if you dont know which cyl (or take off rocker cover )

I'd be more worried about what bent the Valve in the 1st place. the timing would need to be out or for it to have thrown the timing belt/chain depending on which engine you fitted. It's also possible that the Head gasket has gone and it's losing compression and blowing through into the inlet manifold.

Either way it sounds like you've fitted a duff engine and only taking the head off is going to tell you how bad it is.

hope it works out for ya my experience with ebay n engines so far has been crap luckily I know where he lives an I still got his phone number! He may be getting a call soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks someone has suggested bump starting it to try and free up the valves is this a bad idea if one of the valves is possiby siezed or bent?

The general recommendation is that you shouldn't bump start a vehicle with a cam belt as the shock can cause the belt to jump. I've never worried about it too much, but if you think the shock is going to be enough to unstick a valve, I would definitely worry about the belt!

i heard this too, and thought it sounded like a load of rubbish - the started will snatch it a lot more, erm, briksly shall we say, so how does bump starting, which works off the flywheel anyway, be any brisker?

Update!! Took the head off last night discovered three bent pushrods and one broken one (probably good job I didn't bump her) Ooooo and four wobbly firing pots! took the head off me old engine and the pushrods out refitted and fired her up. Still needs some "fine tuning" Tappets need setting, Alternator belt needs tightening , Needs new coolant pipe (that goes round corners). But at least I managed to get her home!

All I can think is the timing belt has snapped previously and all they did was replace the belt!!!! But anyone with half an idea would of known that it bends the rods when you break a belt on them!
