Only had the 95 p38 for a few weeks, already fitted M.A.R.S.re-sealed the valve-block, new airbags & compressor, everything now perfect, but it seems a bit sluggish, so i'm thinking of fitting one of the inline 'black-box' type of engine management 'chips'. These units apparently re-map the engine ecu for increased bhp & torque, so I got to wondering, since I have the Rovacomelite stuff, should'nt I be able to re-map the engine's ecu anyway? Or am I missing something. One for you electronic smart alecs out there!!

Hi modelman
I do not know if you are able to reprogram the ecu yourself, I would think not as there would not be a market for these 'superchips' however I have used a tunit module on our old 2.5 bmw diesel and it did make a difference giving it more grunt, some time ago I read a report that tried different performance chips and modules and they came to the conclusion that the replacement chip in the ecu worked better but I cannot verify that. I now have a 2.5 dse and was hoping to fit the tunit module onto this vehicle, as it clearly says suitable for BMW/RANGE ROVER but when I contacted the company (Tunit ) they said it would not fit and they would not send me a copy of the instructions to fit it even though it came from them apparently they require the original invoice as it is against company policy to give out copies, my point is to make sure that whatever you fit it is suitable for your vehicle regardless of what the unit might say, I am now in the process of contacting trading standards over this misdescription of their product. I hope this has not put you off, because these chips can make a difference, just do your research

Not sure if you have seen my info about the psi powerbox?

I would just say be very carefull if you get one. I found it all too easy
after I fitted mine to see off 4.6's etc but then popped the cylinder head, the straight 6 has a very long head and the higher pressures in the cylinders
can lift the center, any more than 4 thou of warp and you can also kiss goobye to the head as it is out of tollerance to be skimmed, It cost me nearly 3 grand to get the head stripped and replaced.
The LR dealer said they had a lot of these jobs to do and all after they had been
'modified' and apparently very common with the new 3.0D.
They also said if I re connected it they would give me no warranty.......

I'm not really sure they should be selling them if it can do so much damage to
the engine there 'supposed' to be designed for?

Hello m8

just to help you if you need it i am a dealer for tunit in the york area and if you need help with the instructions i will help no probs.

if you have a tunit 3 serial = 0000004313 from your old car it will fit
BMW 3/5/725 TD
BMW /3/5/725 TDS before 10/1994
Opel Omega 2.5 TDI before 10/1994

The later cars need a tunit with serial 0000004323
And fit
BMW 3/5/725 TDS from after 10/1994
Rover Rangerover 2.5TDI
Opel omega TDI until anfer 10/1994

The Tunit unit its self is the same but the wiring loom that comes with it is diff for diff years or car

hope this helps

if you get stuck ring me i will try to help

Thanks for the offer of help with the tunit, the module I have has the following numbers/ identification - Tunit III/13 033 this I guess would mean It is not suitable for my 96 range rover? however below the numbers it clearly says BMW/R/Rover. there is another number where the wires exit the unit - R173150.
I wouldn't mind if it didn't fit if it didn't say R/Rover on it, I did enquire about Tunits exchange program but drew a blank with them, as a company I am not very impressed, perhaps you can throw some light on the subject, many thanks
KSG

If you ring me and fill me in on the fuller details i will make enquires with one of the other supplyers for a possible exchange/part-ex and i will find out exactly what you need.

you may poss be able to just buy a wiring loom for the tunit you have there
