Hi so its ok to adjust the pump as you described to get it closer to the 50% mark,?

Getting it down to nearer 50% would be helpful. 80% at idle does not leave a lot of scope in the locker. Don't forget to slacken the pump JUST enough that it can be tapped around you will also have to slacken the injector pipes and retighten to relieve pressure on those if pump is moved a lot. If it's only a couple of mm may not be needed. Hold delivery valves with a spanner if you have to slacken injector pipes. Also when tightening them up. Can be a tad fiddly to do if you don't have the proper tools.

If it helps, here was my attempt (page 3 of the thread): https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/diesel-stalling-in-hot-weather.280887/page-3

My modulation would drift back after I'd adjusted it. I'd check the lift-pump first. Mine was caused by a mix: dead lift-pump, tired FIP and chain-stretch.

The lift pump doesn't supply a lot of pressure to the injection pump that is done by the high pressure pump inside the injector pump. Of course if both are tired you have problems.

Hi Grrrrrr To be fair after reading your problems, you had stalling and hot start issues and your problems are not mine. i just want to keep my motor in top condition, its easier to do preventive maintenance than wait until it breaks then fix it

Will fitting a high pressure lift pump, be any help? I've read sonewhere in BMW forum fitting a Facet pump to resolve hot start issue.
