Operation from the key may move the mechanism a little further than is the case when the lock motor operates so EKA works.
It's possible to replace the micro switches in the lock but it's a bit of a fiddle as the original micro switches are a block 3 that is not available so the replacement uses 3 separate micro switches.
Search for an MG TF door lock, reputedly it's the same as the P38 lock apart from the connectors so easy to mod the connections to suit.
Genuine P38 door locks are available but you need a mortgage to buy one.

Try to get a similar year to your car. Some have the lead built in, some have a single plug at the bottom and some have 2 plugs at the bottom. You want them as similar as possible. The MGF ones are missing a microswitch. On mine (1995) I have 2 plugs at the bottom and the microswitxhes are held on a rod and juat clip in and out.

"MGF ones have one micro switch missing" That's news as some people seem to have fitted the MGF lock with success.

I fitted one and have had no problems, connectors the same as well,

The one I got wasn't exactly the same so maybe that's why. The motors inside were the same.

It depends on the MGF model. Some latches have 3 microswitches, but others don't (I have several like this). If you fit the wrong version, then doors will not lock & unlock correctly.

If the connector has 6 wires, then there's probably 3 microswitches, but make sure the seller pictures show the exact item, and not a generic pic. (many breakers use generic pics & ship the wrong type - buyer beware)

That one I looked at said it was for central locking & alarm, do you think it might have the 3 switches?
Or, is it possible to strip & repair/replace them?
I'd rather buy new as it SHOULD be reliable.

If there are 6 wires coming out of the lock, t will have 3 microswitches. It is possible to strip the lock and replace the micro switches, I have done 3, but it's quite a fiddly job as the switch block has to be made up from individual switches as the triple switch block is not available. Then correctly locating the home made switch block has to be very precise.

Just out of interest, I looked at MGF ones on Rimmers site, from what I could see they have three wires and,
they're nearly as expensive as P38 ones.

Rimmers = twice the price of other places.

They are actually cheaper by £100 for a late P38, than Island!

Not on eBay they aren't ... or didn't used to be!

You need to determine if you have a single plug or two plug version first. Mine's got too but it is early.

It's easy to convert either way.

Well that's put paid to that, I contacted the seller of the new MGF lock & its got 5 wires.
Any ideas where to get one ??

That will have 2 micro switches unless it doesn't have the super lock motor. There are 3 wires plus a common for the 3 micro switches plus 2 for the lock motors.
