Hi Guys

If the cylinder head gasket goes would it cause : Lack of power and then engine to stall and then no F****g chance it will start again ?
We Have fuel at pump, injectors fuel filter ie everywhere it should be and not a chance it will fire up and catch but its is trying!!!!!!!!!!! [ my patience for one ]

I have had a few good pointers and tips on here but my limited mechanical knowledge is looking like a tow to a diesel specialist.

lift pump? it might have lost some pumpage. take the line from the lift pump out of the filter and crank the engine. fuel should shoot out and easily hit the bonnet.
lack of compression from hgf might be a prob but this is very unlikely on more than one cylinder.

Does it cut out when you are giving it some welly?
Try just pootling around at very little turbo boost- I bet it runs ok.

I had this with my 2.5TD a while back. Would cut out when at high revs & refuse to start for nearly an hour. Thought it was temp dependent...
Turned out to be the boost diaphragm (£14) .
I discounted this because 1 of the symptoms of a split diaphragm is pressurisation of the fuel tank & mine didn't.
BUT I only had a very small pinhole in the diaphragm. Enough to open at high boost pressure to stop the extra fuel getting injected..
So lean cut.

have you got any other signs of head gasket failure? whats temp reading? what sort pressure you got out oil filler? is water/oil contaminated at all?

as tivster says it could be boost diaphragm as mine did exactly same as his when it went.

on other hand i stayed doggedly with my td fixin endless faults till turbo went and dropped tdi in it best thing i ever did, goes up hills now without gettin the oars out.

Well Guys,

Today I have had to face the enviatable  The TD engine is goosed.

We have now spent to much time ducking about and we have got nowhere cos it still will not start and money is just going down the drain

I am now looking for a TDI engine, as repectfully told to by numerous guys on here .

As long as my **** kicker is ready for the shooting season then me and the dogs will be happy !!!

Thanks for all the help though :D
