2.5 N/A engine in a SIII

I need the engine out of my S3 due to it smoking. Had the head off and it looks like it needs a rebore (Already tryed new pistons & rings). You only notice it when cold, once warm there is no blue smoke (Just the normal black when accelerating) But i want to get it sorted. I've also been looking at an Engine swap, so If i get hold of a land rover 90 2.5 N/A or TD will it fit my gearbox without the need of an adapter plate? Also i think the gearbox will be ok with the power of the 2.5 N/A, But will a S3 gearbox be able to take the power of a 2.5TD (NOT the 200TDI or 300TDI)?

I don't want to be with out my landy, So i'am looking to get a 2nd 2.25 diesel to rebuild (Then just swap the engine over) or a 2.5 diesel from a landrover 90/110.

Hi Andy.
The 2.5 TD will go straight on the gearbox and mountings.Just use the 4 speed clutch plate.
Its a bit tight Turbo and exhaust wise by the chassis but all fits. Remember to use the bigger bore 90 exhaust as the series exhaust is small diameter.
