Hi,

I have a 2.5 V6 Freelander and need to get the fans spinning as soon as I start the vehicle.

I am presumming there is a temp sensor on the engine that if I short out will keep the fans on when the ignition is switched on.

Could anyone confirm this will happen and if so point me in the direction of the sensor.

If this won't work any idea's on how I achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

why?

section 22 - Rave manual.

Temp gauge is reading normal. Yet water is boiling over (fans don't kick in). If I stick air con on, fans kick in, water don't boil over.

Bled, Bled & Bled some more to check for air locks in the system. There is no smell of exhaust gases in the system. Also, there is no sludge building up. The engine runs fine, and the pipes don't feel as if there is alot of back pressure building up.

Temp solution, get the fans running from the get-go, the car is a 2001 (Y) so I am happy if this solves it.

why do you think the fans cool the coolant, but it is too hot without them?

is it that the water is not being pumped around? possible water pump? belt? thermostat not opening?

My fans never come on??? The temp gauge never goes above mid point and it runs fine, does not use much water, but you can see it bubbling in the fill bottle, Mines a 2000 TD4. Is this normal??

When I say boiling over. I mean, actually boiling over and bubbling out of the expansion chamber (hence the water empties out of the system and needs refilling).

Back to my Original Post.

Can anyone help me please, in trying to by-pass the temperature controlled on/off for my cooling fan.

I don't want to fix the orignal problem whatever it may be (stat/housing/pump). I merely want to get the fan to come on once the ignition is switched.

I don't really fancy just "tapping into" another switched live as I would imagine there are alot of amps in the cooling fan electrics.

All help greatly appreciated.

it aint as easy as that - coz it is all tied into the cooling system/engine electronics.
as i sed before - look at section 22 in the Rave manual.

Chris...
(until my recent worries about temp gauges in another thread)
my 2002 td4 temp gauge never moved from the mid point once it had warmed up...even when stuck in traffic jams.
and i had never heard the fans until i broke my aux drive belt a month back and the pump stopped as a result.

so that sounds normal to me...but the bubbling doesn't

Are you sure it isn't just a little water coming into the expansion vessel by the little top hose as the water is pumped around ?

Rich.

Hi Rich, Yep your probably right. It probably is just the water pumping into the expansion chamber. I shall check it next time I get in nice and hot, As it never looked like a "boiling kettle". I was more worried about the fans never coming on. But its prob just another freelander "feature".

Cheers :D :D :D

I can't understand why you would want to bypass it, the temp sensor is more than likely a brown colour, like the 1.8 sensor. Disconnecting it on the 1.8 causes it bring on the fans constantly.

The reason your system is 'boiling' or appears to be is because its not pressurised, dodgey cap, leak somewhere in the system.

I don't know the pressure of the 2.5 V6, but the 1.8 eng is 0.9-1.2bar
