Hi Folks,

I posted a while ago about my need for a new engine for my P38 and had plenty of help from people on this forum, (thanks folks)

The trouble is my garage which is a Land Rover specialist is now telling me that my engine is the newer model 2.5 diesel (year 2000) with the plastic manifold and that I can't put in the older model with the metal manifold.

Has anyone any experience of whether or not its possible and if so what changes are needed. (how different can it be ????)

I am really in the sh*t at the moment as my P38 is my daily runner and has been off the road now for 3 weeks and the hire car costs are mounting. There seem to be plenty of the older model engines but I can't find the newer one anywhere.

Thanks in advance...

tell them to put the plastic one on if they are that bothered there isnt any difference all you do is move the studs on the front three ports to the other set of holes my 99 model had a plastic manifold on i fitted an omega 2001 engine and left the metal inlet on only difference is the turbo pipe that goes across the top doesnt quite fit properly but it stays were it is and doesnt move so i am not going to lose any sleep over iti would find somebody else who DOES know the difference

Ian you are a star !!!!!! Thats just what I hoped someone would say.

Thanks again fella.

have they got a late engine they are trying to sell you or something all mt51s are interchangeable with varying degrees of things to be changed i wouldnt even bother looking for an engine out of a range 4*4 breakers demand a premium locally i was looking at £1600 for a 1996 range engine 130k or £450 for 2001 omega with 61k on it few more bits to swap but what a saving.there are many landy specialist that havnt got a clue about rangeys i had one down the road from me brilliant with a disco crap with a range(his own admission)seriously though find someone who does know what to do if you are in the midlands i can help but there are plenty of recomends on here for other areas
good luck
