5 weeks ago starter motor failed, had been on its way out for a while. Also had low oil pressure at the time causing lifter tick.
4 weeks ago Topped up oil, replaced starter motor. Drove about 5 miles then starter failed, oil pump also failed and that area went on fire. Nothing major damaged 1 pipe melted.
2 weeks ago managed to have replaced all relevant parts, oil pump, starter and melted pipe. Engine won't start with key but started with easy start spray. Left it idling for 5 minutes and it died, killing the starter motor again.

Checked for any wires shorting and can't find any, all fuses are okay. Don't want to fit and fry another starter so what can I do now? I believe there was a tsb about this if not a similar issue but I can't find it. I believe the tsb number is 44410 but unsure as I can't find it.

Anyone got any suggestions as it's my daily runner and just want it back on the road now...

Sorry I have no idea, but commiserations on the death of your two starter motors. Hope someone will come along with the answer for you. Think I would have let the complete Defender burn, then claim on the insurance.

Is it the start motor or the solenoid that's gone.
Did the start actually stop running when you let the key relax or carry on running after the engine fired up.

The starter must be staying in mesh to burn out in five minutes. The ignition switch may be faulty, it's a poor quality item and ours failed in such a way that the starter did not disengage unless you manually returned the key to the run position.
When replacing the switch use a genuine LR one if possible.
The last thing l'd recommend doing with a TDCi is to drive it when you know that it has low oil pressure.
lt's not the best engine for long term reliability in the first place, so you are just asking for trouble doing that.
