Anyone got any thoughts on swapping a 2.25 petrol for a 2.25 diesel? I am not too bothered about the engineering side but what about difference in power/driveability and what would the fuel consumption be with a diesel?

Sounds like crock but I return around 40 MPG. Can't for the life of me work out why I get that much from an old diesel lump but I do, really! It also only costs me around 20 quid to fill it. I have two tanks and run on veg oil and a little diesel for starting and stopping. I do a lot of miles in a week and have not got the cash or want to spend the money on fuel!

Underpowered for sure! Performance don't bother me, but I do life in a location that does not require motorway speeds etc. if I wanted performance I would drive something else.

Me friend with a petrol v8 conversion can hardly afford to use it, to me that is really no fun.

I guess at the very end of the day it is what you want and need the Land rover for.

Marcus is the man to ask - he went from a 2 1/4 D to a V6 petrol! Jealous? Me? Never!

V6? S'a V8 mate!

18mpg with me overdrive, but I can do proper motorway speeds! Loved my old doosul 2 1/4, cheap as chips, dint have to worry about water getting in the lecky bits off road, but did it plod! 55mph tops on the M/way & took a long time to get there & screamed when it did!

That said, if you're only using it locally, around town, greenlaning and stuff I reckon you'd get on fine.

My old doosul & me V8 are very different animals but I have thoroughly enjoyed driving them both for different reasons. You just need to weigh up what you want from yer motor I guess. ;)

If it's any small consolation it's only 18 to & from work on the M3 in overdrive, 16 the rest of the time. You'll be doing less miles over here though won't you? Ah, at UK guzzline prices though! Hmm, swings & roundabouts ain't it. Anyways you couldn't convert yours, it's too good to mess about with!
