hi my diesel 2.25 black smokes quite bad under not much load its quite sluggish on the road and no point in having overdrive because im never going to get in to it lol

removed air filter pipe
checked brakes are not sticking

any ideas before i start spending loads of money on things that are not causing me problems

black is unburnt fuel I believe.......without spending money check air pipes,filter then borrow a compression tester,maybe whack some redex through it
 
ive taken the pipe off to the air filter and its still the same

just something else i might add the engine starts very well and does not smoke at all on tick over even when its cold
 
Just try adjusting the fuel pump, I had loads of trouble figuring out the smoke and tried all sorts because I couldn't be bothered with undoing and redoing up those unions just to move the thing 1/2 mm before doing it again, recon injectors helped, but in the end what sorted it was the pump. Remember to properly mark the start position though.
 
Black and white smoke are both fuel, white is unburned vaporised fuel, and black is partially burned, ie not enough air for the amount of fuel.
Restricted airway is a good one to check, stuffed filter etc, failing that then the pump could be out of adjustment, or if its just started then maybe a fault in the pump.
Hvae you messed with anything prior to this?
We are talking about a standard series n/a arent we.
 
Don't forget de butterflyvalve in the airway which is used to get some vacuum for the power assisted braking device. Better is to remove this valve and put in an electrical vacuumpump which is switched on by the brakeswitch.. In this way you have a much better airflow and a much more stable vacuum for the brakes.
