I have recently bought a 2000 plate freelander ( my first landrover). anyway i just have a couple of issues with the car i was hoping someone could offer some advise.
1. the car has a knocking/clunking noise from the rear driver side wheel when you pull away. The noise stops when you are moving, and there appears to be no vibrating or anything like that. any ideas?
2. the central locking is a bit dodgy. All of the doors lock with the remote, but only the driver side passenger door opens with it. This door however is not original, it must have been changed at some point over the years as it has a wind up window handle and not an elec window like the rest. the drivers door open fine with the key and then the other doors are opened from the inside.??
3. the rear electric boot window seems to freeze down after a few uses. i have had to disconnect the batt. to reset the system to get the window back up a few times. Is this related to the issue with the rcl.??
the passenger front window is not going down with the elec, although you can hear the motor running. do you think this could be an easy fix?

otherwise the car seems sound, but i do think the brakes need doing. however i got it for a song and am willing to spend the cash on anything that needs repaired mechanically, but just dont want to run into lots of garage bills for rcl and window issues. however i do have a husband that could be easily persuaded to get a screwdriver out if these were easy fixes ;)

i bought it for the space and ease of getting my kiddywinks in and out, so im looking forward to getting behind the wheel on a permanent basis once i get the niggles sorted. Any advise on these issues would be grand, and any other things to check for/watch out for would be much appreciated.

1. clunk at the rear is probably the centre (front) rear diff mount:

Here's a video of a failed centre rear diff mount:

Welcome to the forum.

If it's a petrol engine, check the coolant level as they suffer with leaks and head gasket failure.

Hi Claire,

No.2) could be faulty door lock assemblies. The unlock motors seem to fail with age. The drivers door usually fails first, but you can get over the problem by using the key as you have found. I expect the others have just failed one by one. The lock assemblies cannot be repaired, and the drivers one is about £75.00 plus fitting.

No. 3) The cables from the door to the body supplying power / feedback to the window motor can fracture and give the symptoms you describe, or the window regulator could be faulty.
The window not lowering will likely be a broken drive cable. New window regulator or replacement cable will fix.
Now you know why you got it for a song!
Best of luck, Eric.
