19j waste gate restrictor valve???

Last weekend my mate Phil and I fitted an oil catch tank to the rocker cover breather on my old 110 19j engine.

While we were there he asked if I wanted to make the old girl a bit more powerful.
What he did was, took the waste gate pipe off the turbo, and put a restrictor in to the pipe (an old welding tip, drilled out a bit).

The theory is, that the turbo will come on boost sooner as there's less gasses escaping into the waste gate ( I think that's what he said).

Anyway. The old girl is a lot more drivable, with the turbo spooling up at about 1/4 throttle. Obviously top end speed has not been affected, but there seems a lot more grunt.
It's not far off my old 200tdi!!

Anyone else done this??

Never done it on a landrover. We did it on a turbo gs1000 once; it blew up. Fun while it lasted though.

no ,wont hurt, just delayed waste gate slightly , unless your doing hours of flat out full boost motor way driving ,for std landy driving removing pipe or adjusting rod wont harm engine but give you a little more boost
