OK....You put in the developement, time, sacrafice, commitment, tooling, software, prototypes, etc etc etc and then start producing them cheaper.

Yes they can be costly, but also, you have to appreciate that Colin and the chaps and chappettes at BBS all have put a lot of blood sweat and tears into a tool that is 20 times cheaper and yet as capable as the dealers own Testbook!
Good point saint.. but still....

While it is a tad pricey, it is the doggies-danglers and well worth the spend IMHO.
Its a one-off spend and its yours for as long as you have the car. No more being fobbed-off by a dealer/indie....you know what the faults say is wrong.
For me it has been well worth it on my Motronic P38 and has helped me set all the options I want to have enabled/disabled and pointed where my ABS fault was.
I'm very happy with it.

I realise the time and commitment put in by the manufacturers but its a captive market where for every 1 sold for say £492 probably 5 or 10 would get sold if the price was say £250 to £300 as every owner will need one at some time in our lives and I am sure most of us would like to purchase one

oh the price has gone up loads since i bought one, was only £330 and its now £446, thats brexit ****ting on the value of sterling for you i guess

I was likely the first person on here to get one, it came in at around the £400.00 mark including postage and postal insurance. But that was before they were on sale to the public.

They are great but I'm guessing blackbox are a small company miles away in Cyprus. There business model is what it is. But there is a huge potential market. It is priced for the enthusiast atm. Bit like mark Adams chips but with a massive potential market.

i own 2 P38 diesels and a Disco 3 TDv6 my original anacom was stolen but i sourced another one which had the defender puma c so they odes put on it so i had to get the codes for the P38 and the dico 3.not inly did i have to get the codes the cables were differentso had to get 2 new cables. Contacted black box solutions and reported it stolen and they siad they would block it if it ever came on line and took me off their forum. When i got the new unit i asked if i was entilted to the codes i had purchased with the original unit but they would allow that so i had to purchase the codes again.any way i now have a unit that does defender with puma engine and Disco 3 and P38 diesels already it has picked up a fault on my P38.

Talking of which, did you get the FIP timing checked / sorted?

Expensive, Nanocom - I don't think so... My Testbook T4 cost me £10,786 with the Vat in 2003,still working well, earning its keep. Has alot of extra kit with it that you don't get with all the other tools, such as a basic scope tool with pressure transducer etc. But few people knew that, only wanted to slag the system off.Truth is it works, on all the LR,Rover and MG models of the era. Will repair or set up all of those cars to factory spec, and it is quality. I also bought a Nanocom, just to code secondhand D2 keyfobs. It has also proved to be very useful and so far reliable. Good that it can read TD5 Defenders too...
