So if you have a 1998 Disco 1, there are two candidates for rear shock absorbers. Up to LA081991 there's Type #1 and after MA081992 there's Type #2.

Does anybody know what changed on the chassis to necessitate this change?

I'm in Morocco and I have a post-MA081992 Disco and can only find the Type #1 of shock absorbers (i.e., the earlier kind, which supposedly only fit up to LA081991). I'm wondering if anybody knows what kind of issues I might run into attempting to fit them.

If I remember correctly when the MA VIN was introduced LR fitted with a rear anti roll bar for the first time as standard, therefore the previous characteristics of the springs and dampers were change possibly, something slightly softer maybe?

Does an ARB-less Disco roll like a boat going around corners?

I could handle stiffer shocks back there - that'd just bounce the kids around a bit more on bumps, right? A bit of shaking would probably do them good...

It will roll to a degree but that would be prevented by fitting stiffer springs. LR do state in the parts catalogue when fitting upgrade rear springs (that would be "police spec" in the old days of the RR) the rear anti roll bar should be removed.
