Hi guys, might sound like a dumb question ? But as we v8 owners know petrol v8s don't like water :( . So I would like to waterproof my ecu, I seem to remember a company that did do it. But I can't for the life of me I can't remember the name of them or if they are still around or in the UK?
Is there another company that do it or is there another way? I'm getting the distributor and coil cover that are silicone. Yes I know there are other ways of doing them items diy style :)
I will also be making a deflecting shield to push water around the distributor (only if I can waterproof ecu)
While I'm on here, WADING KIT! I've just purchased one and would like some advice on installation,
I know where the axle breathers are, but where does the pipe end?
I have two pipes at back of engine next to bulk head that curl over, are these the front and rear axle breathers?
Then there is the automatic transmission does that have a breather? Also does this need a wading plug? (One is provided in kit)
Also does the transfer box (diff lock) have a breatherand where does that locate? And lastly my fuel tank and lpg system do they require breather fitted?
I just want to do it right so my Emily doesn't become a sunken wreck
So please can you help me?
Would really appreciate your advice and expertise on this
Many thanks
Dave :)

If you going into water so deep the the EFI ECU can become waterlogged then there’s no hope for the rest of the electrics within the vehicle.
As for your other questions, there’s all ready breathers fitted from the components that makeup the vehicles transmission, some breathers, as u say, can be seen in the engine bay are for the axel and gear and transfer box, the rear axel breather can be located from behind one of the tail lights I believe.
The petrol tank already has a breather but not for the same purpose as the other breathers, I haven a clue on LPG systems.
Wading plugs are not required for the V8 Auto.

Hi bud, I don't intend to go too deep, but prevention is better than trying to cure!!!!! I'm the sort of person who tries to forsee any potential downsides that can be prevented. So yes I make work for myself and there are some areas in the day that can be made better. So I will keep doing what I do lol.
But thanks for your responce

Have a look at the megasquirt v8 engine kits, I knew a guy who fitted the full kit and it fully water proofed the engine
I'm on the lookout for a v8 disco and it's one of the first things I'll be doing to it

Having tried all sorts of ways to waterproof a D1 V8, sone successful, some not, I'd suggest that waterproofing the ECU is probably strengthening the strongest link in the chain.

Do fit a wading kit, but don't allow that to make you complacent. Check all the oils after every wading session.

There is no fully effective way to waterproof the dizzy. it will track when it gets too humid in there and the engine will misfire and then cut out.
Step one should be to remove the distributor if you want to go wading.

There are essentially two main ways to do this - fit aftermarket spark control such as megajolt ( or a standalone ECU. Megasquirt is the popular choice but better are available )
Or fit a Gems engine - the 4.0 or 4.6 from the P38a.

I have left my D1 idling with the bonnet (and my feet) underwater when fitted with the GEMS setup.

It's worth noting that with either the Gems or ANOther aftermarket ECU, you're re-positioning the ECU so can fit it well out of harm's way.
