Well done so far! I know what it’s like to stitch together old landrover chassis, but at least mine is in my shed. Hats off to you:)

Thanks yes is good fun, unfortunately the garage has 2 early triumph heralds in it and a 72 classic range rover all 3 which are also awaiting complete restoration but the disco is top of the list at the minute and in theory the cheapest to do, so top of the drive it is and make the most of the weather

Ah, a fellow Triumph owner too! I have 1973 2000. I guess we can’t get enough of rust....Would love to see your early Range Rover. I restored my disco a few years ago. My dust masks were orange with the rust I was cutting out! Good luck with the Disco. Let’s see some more pics..

Will get a pic at some point of the range rover its buried under Hay at present we live on a small farm with horses and sheep the 'garage' is actually the Hay barn  got the rear axle out yesterday afternoon will get a pic of that pain in the arse in a bit thinking of what I can do with it today as have run out of cutting and sanding discs until tomorrow

So yesterday afternoon I got the rear axle off with a lot of grunting and swearing about bolts and nuts that are no longer the shape they should be and we'll that fulcrum bracket that was a ballache and then some bolts seized in the bracket so lots of grinding and smashing with a hammer (you can just see the classic in the background looking sorry for itself 16 years parked in the same place)

I had exactly the same problem when I replaced the balljoint on mine. I’m sure I had to get the gas axe out to heat it up first. Great progress. Remember to post some pics of the rangey in the future as I’m a sucker for early 3 doors!

Oh there was a fair bit of heat used also haha the 3 door classic won't be for a while it's actually the mother in laws and need full body off resto but she ain't got the money for that yet this farm is just full of dead cars needing work :(

Cheers zed yes a fair bit of rust but as you know the typical Ammanford weather has not been fair so only getting started now really

ha, it is damp here 364/365 soo_O

anyway, was it used to launch boats?

if you need consumables, I've a stock of 4 1/4" & 7" cutting, slitting, grinding, sanding & polishing discs:cool:

my press failed when replacing the joint on my 'L' reg 200, ended up drilling around its edge & heat & press before it budged:mad:

Rich.

Zed I have some on order but with the way royal mail is god knows when it will arrive I've run out at present so on stop hoping local motor factors will have some in the morning it was a lady owner over in Clydach that owned it from new and just didn't look after it

So thanks to @Zed. Nice to put a face to the name. I was able to get some more welding work done this afternoon have had to now stop due to the sun being at the wrong level and causing the mask to keep shutting off so shall resume tomorrow after the essential trip out

So a fair bit done again today got the rear spring hanger cut off and a load more rot cut out, with a bit of CAD (cardboard aided design) work a repair patch was made and welded in. Wind picked up so that was a stop put to any more welding so starting poking around with a screwdriver and found lots of small patches still needed on that side, really need to get that garage built so weather doesn't stop me :(

Today was not a day for welding very windy up here and had a bit of emergency fency to do as one of the horses decided to sit on a post, so instead today I decided I would pull the gearbox/transfer box out forgot how heavy the bloody thing was

You are really making some progress now. Getting some strength back into the chassis! Engine cranes are really handy. Lifted my s3 gearbox out yesterday with mine too. Worth their weight in gold...;)

Deffo I would be lost with mine it helped lift the body off, lifted rear end of chassis to a comfortable work height and making short work of getting engine and box out bonus with that one is will lift 2 tonne at its shortest point, plan I'd to have it down to a bare chassis by end of the weak and moved to a more sheltered part of the driveway

Yh all on my own well the odd help from the Mrs here and there she's quite hands on just a bit weak for the heavy parts so I end up improvising a lot of the time trolley jack and engine crane with strops are my best friend haha my 2 step boys are more interested in tech and games consoles.

My Mrs would give me the ‘stare’ if I asked her to help with the Landy! My son helps every now and again, but he is more interested in a PlayStation the majority of the time. At least you don’t get any grief or complaints if you do it yourself:D

My Mrs is good she helped me rebuild a tractor last year and serviced her own car with guidence yh the boys are all about the xbox at least when it goes wrong I only have myself to blame
