Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and a new Disco owner as of the weekend :D

I bought the car with it having a ticking noise, and on investigation I found the exhaust manifold gasket gone on the side nearest the bulkhead, you can feel the gas escaping when you hold your hand over the top

Its a 1996 Tdi - does this make it a 300tdi engine?

Where would be the best place to buy a new gasket? and is there any manual/instructions anywhere online on how to replace it? or is it a case of it explains itself once you start?

I'm fairly confident at spannering, so would prefer to do DIY

Thanks in advance

Ade

yes its a 300tdi, iirc its a inlet/exhaust manifold gasket all in one but i could be wrong, easy to do just a few bolts, its worth cleaning your inlet manifold out while its off,

Yeah, as mark says, just a few bolts. 13's for the inlet manifold and 15's for the exhaust manifold if memory serves. You have to remove the inlet manifold first, top bolts need to be completely removed, bottom 2 can just be slackened and the manifold lifts out upwards giving you a better view of the other bolts.
