Quick update fitted the temp sensor it was a green one fitted already, took it for a drive and no different, 42 minutes altogether which I'm pretty happy with! Also realised the part I had was a MAP not a maf sensor! Fitted that and no different so it's an oil and filter change this evening and fingers and toes crossed!

I did say the temp sensor scenario maybe a red herring. :);)

Is there a process I have to do to reprogram the new sensors? In my bmw I had to hold the key in the ignition at position 1 for 60 seconds for the car to do a scan of itself and register id changed the brake wear indicators and pads..

No plug and play.

Ha ha then id be using my expensive polish and wax! Plus at the end of the day it's a land rover they don't look right too clean!
If the oil and filter change don't solve anything does anyone have any other recommendation apart from a replacement gearbox?
I'll be using the Lucas auto trans fix aswell seems iv got it!
I'm quickly running out of viable options now I couldn't justify putting a gearbox in if either break it or sell it as it is!

See post#2 in this thread. You don't know til you have tried it. May take a little time may be better straight away. £60 on Lucas and fluid is a whole lot cheaper than a new box, IF it works.

well it worked on my p38 doozil with exactly the same probs, gearbox wise.

On boxes that have been poorly serviced sticking valve blocks are common. It doesn't matter how many electricary things pulse and fart about if a shuttle valve is tight it ain't going to work properly. :);)

eggzackery, that is what i said in the beginning, about the oil and filter i mean.i bought my oil from a place called v800 or something of ebay, they were the cheapest at the time.after changing it the box was like new again, silky smooth and changed gears exactly how it was intended.:):)

Oh well I got the Lucas stuff for free and the ATF only cost me £11 for 5 litres plus the filter kit which was £5-6 so after this I'll leave it with my friend to have a look over it for a week ten if no joy it'll be going up for sale as it is... Shame really as it's grown on me the last couple f days! But maybe it's time to go back to the very first land rover I drove! A defender! I doubt I'll be able to afford another 57 plate puma 110 black on black on black! But can pick up a decent one for 6-7k and it'll be something I'm happy keeping hold of for a while!

ok,i meant i used all lucas oils in my gearbox, not standard atf.;)

Oh really?! Well if I see a slight improvement with the trans fix and normal ATF I'll do as suggested and give another change in a couple of weeks and use all Lucas that time! But seems iv already got everything ready to here might aswell give it a go! Is the difference normally instant or will it take a few miles to get around the system?

don't forget what fluid comes out is not all that is in there.there is fluid in the torgue convertor that you cannot drain out.so beware of what you put back in to it.when i did mine it took a day or so before i noticed a difference.but when it made the difference, then wow.if i was you i would change the fluid only, then run it for a day or so to see if it frees anything up.then change the filter and fluid next.that way any crud that has been freed in the box will get flushed out and then you can put fresh fluid and a new filter back.

If I had a bit more time to spare I would but we are going to Wales on Friday for the sister in laws wedding and we can't take the wife's focus as the "engine system failure" light has came on this morning so going to change the filter today and hope that sorts it if not it'll be a trip to Wales in a high revving range rover! Cheaper to replace a gearbox in this then it is an engine in the focus! Cars ey gotta love em!

ok,but you will have to take the chance that the new fluids don't displace any crud in the gearbox and cause more probs.good luck on the journey but take your rac/aa card with you.;)

Oh I know I'm not to confident driving it to be honest! Especially seems my best friend/mechanic who usually pulls me out the **** went away to Portugal this morning! I'm contemplating hiring a car for the weekend!

change the fluid tonight if poss, then give it a very good run,ie as far as you can go in the time you have.then do the fluid and filter before you set off on the trip.

Focus problem is more than likely a misfire on a cylinder. Needs a new coil. You have topped the fluid up in the Range rover i hope.
