1996 Defender Breaks - Brake Pressure Reducing valve Leak??

Hi, new to the forum.

Just picked up a '96 defender - lots of problems ironed out....saw a leak today and noticed (after searching the web for what the part was) that the Brake Pressure Reducing Valve was leaking on depression of the breaks at the end (rubber nipple/opening) not massive fluid loss but there and obvious.

Also noticed the brake peddle moves from side to side under foot...is this normal for an older Landy or related/separate issue?

Any help, experiences, ideas appreciated.

you will need to replace valve (ntc8836)and its worth checking pedal pivot bushes

Thanks James - saw that part mentioned before...looks straight forward. Can the leak be caused by issues in the system? I recently replaced bearings, swivel bearings, stub axle on front/rear and
notice the NS rear caliper was tough/impossible to retract piston to remove the pads...

Pedal wobble - remove the master etc to see the bushes?

leak will cause issues in the systems , it will leak fluid when you press the pedal but will suck some air in as pedal returns,seized caliper is common but apart from reducing caliper efficiency wont hurt the rest of system,and cheap new calipers are available and seem ok at least the many ive fitted ,though fit in pairs per axle smc500110 and smc500240 ,you should be ble to carefully feel wear play is ,if you need to work on pedal box undo the brake pipes on master cylinder ,remove vac pipe ,undo the 6 bolts holding box to bulkhead inside at the top of footwell and remove the whole assembly

Great info James, I'll change the calipers rear (they worried me, so peace of mind) replace PRV and bleed - probably best to check pedal first before I get stuck in. Thank you....a huge help, hopefully

I'm not sure why you need to replace the rear calipers? if the PRV is leaking then replace it and bleed the brakes. Rear caliper problems are a separate issue.

You're probably right WalderShelf - I'm being over cautious...the rear NS caliper looked like dog **** when I removed it so might just replace while I'm 'down there' so to speak.
